April sees big dip in house price inflation

Annual house price inflation dropped significantly in April to 6.9% from the March figure of 12.6%. This left the mix-adjusted average house price in the UK in April 2005 at £181,832, down from £183,346 in March. The ODPM said: “The fall in UK prices between March and April can be largely attributed to a fall in the price of detached houses. Prices for detached houses fell by 3.5 % and for flats by 0.4%, with a slight increase for other dwelling types.” The ODPM also said that rises in house prices in Easter were common and “with Easter earlier this year the inflation rate for March contained two Easter effects.” London had the highest average house price in England in April at £263,525, the North East had the lowest at £128,053.
