Building Regulation amendments published

The government has published its long-awaited amendments to Building Regulations Part L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) and Part F (Ventilation). The changes will come into force in April 2006 rather than January, giving housebuilders extra time to prepare. However the amendments are still only a draft, raising the possibility of further changes and uncertainty in the coming months. The revised Part L will make air pressure leakage testing mandatory, but also leaves the door open for a "third party monitoring" regime similar to the robust details approach to Part E on sound insulation.
