City hears of improving sales activity

Housebuilders Redrow and Persimmon are continuing to enjoy improved sales activity, as revealed in recent statements to the City. Redrow said that sales activity since the start of the year had been encouraging with sales per outlet comfortably ahead of this time last year and visitor levels holding up. The firm expects to complete 2,500 homes in the full year to June 2010 and return to profitability in the second half of that period. Total sales at Persimmon are 20% ahead of this time last year at around £1.15 billion. Sales volumes are around 11% ahead including a higher level of private sales, and prices remain firm. Persimmon also stated that weekly visitors were constant and cancellation rates historically low. It confirmed it had opened 50 new sites in the first quarter as expected. <br>
