Development tariff poses threat to Falconer&’s reform

<b></b> The development tariff proposed in the planning Green Paper could undermine the whole range of Lord Falconer&amp;’s reforms, according to the director general of the CBI, Digby Jones.<br><b>Speaking at the House Builders Federation&amp;’s conference on the economic impact of the planning Green Paper, Jones called the tariff &amp;“nothing more than a stealth tax&amp;” and predicted that it will &amp;“fail in its aim of creating affordable housing as it will discourage development.&amp;”</b><br><b>&amp;“It seems to have been designed with the express aim of extracting as much as possible from the wealth creators of this country. We need a more mature debate about what development is,&amp;” Jones added. &amp;“Development is the act of giving something back to the community per se. Since when has development of our homes and workplaces been a bad thing?&amp;” </b><br><b>Jones argued that the planning system is damaging the whole UK economy and fundamentally hitting our global competitiveness.
