Falconer&’s plan for housing in London

<b></b>Planning minister Lord Falconer has set out a new way to increase housing in London and the south east. In a new report he argues that an additional 25,000 homes for key workers could be created in the next 15 years by building homes over commercial property such as supermarkets, car parks, shops, garages, and other low-rise development. <br><b>Falconer said: &amp;“We must exploit the vast potential of wasted space in our high streets and busy city centres. The scale of our housing need means that we must say goodbye to the surface car park as a sensible land use in urban centres and hello to the rooms with a view that building over commercial property will offer. </b><br><b> &amp;“This requires a fundamental change in the way we think, a radical approach from all of us - local authorities, the Mayor, community leaders, housing managers, developers and landowners.&amp;”</b><br><b>Falconer also called for a new approach to delivery of more affordable housing.
