Fire regs look set for an update

Building Regulation Part B (fire safety) looks set to change after a four month ODPM consultation highlighted the potential use of sprinklers and the need to help firefighters deal with fires in tall buildings. Housing minister Yvette Cooper said: “Protecting people from fire in their homes and workplace remains a key element of government policy on fire safety. In this regard the review has looked at fire safety in all types of premises including dwellings, residential care homes and warehouses. It also considers the important role sprinklers and other types of fire protection measures may have, particularly in buildings where the occupants are most at risk.”
