Firms strive for new low carbon designs

With the drive to build zero and low carbon homes intensifying, companies are striving to produce suitable designs to meet the exacting standards. Velux has unveiled the design for its zero carbon ModelHome 2020, while a partnership of six companies has been established to apply innovative products and processes to hitting Code level four without the use of renewable technologies. The Velux ModelHome 2020 will be built in Rothwell, Northants, and is designed to be a sustainable home that is appealing to the home buyer while being affordable and easily replicable for the housebuilding market. <br> <br> The design will deliver a 70% reduction in carbon emissions with the remaining 30% of carbon offset by allowable solutions. The six companies involved in the AIMC4 partnership are Stewart Milne, Crest Nicholson, Barratt, H + H, BRE and Oxford Brookes University. The £6.4 million project is to look at consumers’ aspirations in relation to low carbon, to develop new design and build processes and to build 12 homes to Code level four with a fabric first solution.
