Paul Morrell has been appointed as government chief construction adviser – a new role within the industry. Morrell will act as a link between government and the industry, ensuring that the construction sector has the necessary knowledge, skills and best practice to take it forward. He will lead the Construction Innovation and Growth Team and will firstly be tasked with leading the Low Carbon Construction Review which is due to report on its initial findings in Spring 2010. CLG explained that the Review was “part of the challenge to bring the industry together to identify how best to deliver the 2022 carbon reduction commitments, to meet the broader challenges of the low carbon future and to capture the many new opportunities it will bring.” The broad role will also see Morrell promoting innovation in the sector and chairing an enhanced sustainable construction strategy delivery board to ensure the co-ordination of policy. Morrell was previously senior partner of construction consultants Davis Langdon. He is also former deputy chair of CABE, so brings extensive experience from both the public and private sector to the role. <br>
