Government selects infrastructure project bidders

The government has selected 70 projects to bid for a share of £200 million to develop infrastructure and community facilities in housing growth areas. Initiatives bidding include Haringey site preparation projects that could get up to £8,212,000, West Northants Development Corporation that could receive £25,000,000 and the Corby Parkland Gateway project that could get £9,000,000. On announcing the provisional allocations housing and planning minister Yvette Cooper said: “We need to build more homes so that the next generation of first time buyers can afford a place of their own. But they need to be homes in sustainable communities not just dormitories. That is why we are investing £200m in new infrastructure and community facilities in the areas where new homes will be built. This funding will cover projects from enhancing local woodland and recreation areas to new transport infrastructure, and from town centre revitalisation to improved leisure centres. I look forward to receiving the fully developed bids in November and to seeing these exciting projects delivering real value to communities across the wider south east."
