Housebuilders race to build Olympic village

<p>Several housebuilders are in the running to build the 2012 Olympic Games athletes’ village. Three consortia were selected by London &amp; Continental Railways (LCR) and the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) to compete for the contract to deliver most of the Stratford City development in east London, including athletes’ accommodation.</p> <p>Barratt is part of a Bouygues-led consortium; First Base, Crosby Homes and East Thames Group have teamed up with Lend Lease, and Bellway, Gladedale and Kier are bidding in a group led by the Royal Bank of Scotland.</p> <p>Stephen Jordan, LCR md, said: “We thought that these teams were well rounded and represented the right sort of skills and resources needed to carry such a project forward. At the moment we haven’t really gone into any great detail on how they should shape there bids. They are on a learning curve.”</p> <p>The winning consortium will also build most of the scheme’s long-term housing, including converting the athletes’ village into housing, and the commercial and hotel developments.
