Industry calls for "lighter touch" on regulations

NHBC chief executive Imtiaz Farookhi has called on government to take a "lighter touch" in relation to Building Regulations. "The private sector's involvement in regulation has always been constructive," he said. "we should be lobbying for more of that in relation to any further changes in regulations." Ian Morfitt from the ODPM responded, "The ODPM is determined to move towards a better regulatory agenda based on a more goal-based, outcome-based approach." The pair were speaking at The Great Regulation debate, chaired by John Sergeant, at the Housing Market Intelligence conference. Evidence from the debate, which was attended by a number of industry and government representatives, will be submitted to the ODPM to improve communication on this issue.
