Industry embraces year-old Consumer Code

The Consumer Code has enjoyed a successful first year, according to new chairman Noel Hunter, with 96% awareness among registered housebuilders. <br> <br> Launched on April 1 2010 in response to various studies into the housebuilding sector, the Code was formed by NHBC, Premier Guarantee &amp; LABC Home Warranties, and the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML). The Code is mandatory to all housebuilders registered with NHBC or Premier Guarantee &amp; LABC Home Warranties. <br> <br> Its aim is to ensure that customers are treated fairly, are aware of what levels of service to expect and are given reliable information, including access to low cost dispute resolution arrangements. <br> <br> “There has been an increase in awareness of the Code amongst housebuilders over the year it has been active,” said Hunter, chairman of the Consumer Code management board. “We’re up to just under a 96% awareness rate (of registered housebuilders).
