Industry group calls for new approach to housing

The Futures Group, a consortium of housebuilders, manufacturers and regulatory bodies, has launched a report addressing the challenge of delivering better homes for the consumer.<br> <br> Building Better Homes for the Customer outlines several "practical and financially sound" recommendations to drive a step change towards building sustainable homes on a mass market scale.<br> <br> The Futures Group says that the goal can be achieved using traditional materials and techniques. But it warns that with fewer than 1,000 homes built to Part L 2010 standards, the proposals for 2013 need revision before moving forward. The report expresses concern over indoor air quality and calls for the SAP tool to be overhauled to better cope with summer overheating.<br> <br> It also states that going ahead with changes in 2013 could compromise the "important goal" of building low carbon homes to last a lifetime.
