Building Regulations Part F, J and L <br> <br> On April 30, the new approved documents for Part F (ventilation), J (combustion appliances and fuel storage systems) and L (conservation of fuel and power) were published. Part F has been amended to reflect the changes to Part L and the drive towards more airtight buildings. Part J, HBF’s technical director Dave Mitchell said, was “just a tidy up,” although the new regulations stipulate that solid fuel units must now be fitted with a carbon monoxide detector. The regulations also permit a battery powered version of the device. “But there is no request included in the update to fit a detector in gas boiler installations,” Mitchell said. The document also covers ventilation requirements for gas installations. Meanwhile, some changes to Part L are causing the industry concern.
