New Homes Quality Board appointed Shared Ownership Code operator

The New Homes Quality Board (NHQB) has been chosen to operate the Shared Ownership Code, supporting shared ownership customers through their buying experience.

The Code, established by the Shared Ownership Council and piloted with eight registered housing providers, represents a “significant step” in strengthening consumer protection and raising standards for the shared ownership tenure.

The NHQB said it had been selected due to its experience in administering the New Homes Quality Code, launched in 2022 and now covering more than half of all new private homes in the UK.

This and the new Shared Ownership Code are separate to each other to reflect the two different tenures, with the NHQB’s appointment not affecting the New Homes Quality Code, it said.

The organisation has now created a subsidiary within its board to manage the Shared Ownership Code. Ann Santry, who chaired the Shared Ownership Council, will temporarily step into the chair role of the Code. She will also sit on the NHQB board for three months.
