Next round of Design for Manufacture winners announced

The Countryside Consortium, Westbury Homes and William Verry have been included in the latest round of bidders chosen to develop homes on English Partnerships-owned sites as part of the Design for Manufacture competition. The Countryside Consortium will develop the Horns Cross site in Dartford, Westbury Homes the former Park Prewett hospital site in Basingstoke, and William Verry will develop two sites – School Road in Hastings and Oxford Road in Aylesbury Vale. A total of around 288 homes will be built on the four sites, around 30% of which must be built for £60,000. Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott announced the news on the same day as the new draft PPS3 was published, alongside the chancellor’s pre-Budget report. He said: "My £60,000 home competition has proved wrong those critics who claimed you can't have both quality and quantity. Today I have also published a new draft planning policy for housing, PPS3, as part of the government's response to the Barker review. PPS3 reinforces the government's commitment to good design.
