Following the election deputy prime minister John Prescott has kept hold of his department but has taken on a deputy. Former education minister David Miliband will work under Prescott but will have a seat in cabinet as the secretary of state for communities and local government. The position will deal with issues such as antisocial behaviour, community renewal, neighbourhood governance, local government and active citizenship.
