Part E project is the biggest ever

The House Builders Federation&amp;’s quest to produce construction solutions to meet the demands of new sound insulation regulations has become the largest research project ever carried out by the industry.<p></p><p> Working with Napier University, HBF is attempting to produce robust standard details (RSDs) for a variety of construction methods which will satisfy the government that new homes will meet the revised criteria. The industry wants the RSDs to replace plans to force developers to carry out expensive tests on new properties to establish sound performance. </p><p> The project requires potential solutions to be comprehensively tested on site, a process now underway. More than 30 housebuilders are involved in the project with 69 sites fully booked with testers and further sites being chosen. In all there are more than 500 test walls and floors, which relates to more than 1000 dwelling plots. </p><p> HBF technical director Dave Baker said: &amp;“Some of the test results which are coming forward from RSD sites are extremely encouraging. The performance of the RSD structures has launched new build dwellings in England and Wales from the lower levels of European rankings of sound insulation to some of the highest in Europe.&amp;” </p><p> He added that these …
