Persimmon may be looking to acquire

Rumours are rife that Persimmon is looking for an acquisition, with Westbury and Taylor Woodrow possible targets. Broker Goy Harris Cartwright has speculated that Redrow might also prove an attractive candidate. An acquisition of this size could take Persimmon to the top of the league of the UK's largest housebuilders, shifting George Wimpey out of the number one spot. Sources close to Persimmon commented that the plc currently has "amazing scope for organic growth" and "could go down either route." <p></p><p>The speculation follows the recent announcement that chairman Duncan Davidson is to retire next year from the company he founded three decades ago.</p>
