PM hosts housing meeting

The prime minister Theresa May has with met housebuilders and other stakeholders in the housing sector to discuss achieving a step change in the delivery of new homes.

Representatives of large and small housing developers, housing associations and local government attended a meeting on Tuesday (October 17) at which the PM emphasised the government’s ambition to “fix the broken housing market”.

Housebuilders including Barratt ceo David Thomas, Taylor Wimpey ceo Pete Redfern and Nigel Hugill, chief executive of Urban & Civic, as well as HBF deputy chairman Peter Andrew, heard the PM outline her plans to increase housing supply and call for developers, local authorities and housing associations to step up to play their part.

Housebuilder understands that the meeting discussed a wide range of issues including planning, SMEs, skills, retirement housing, MMC and Help to Buy. There was also discussion on green belt, landbanks, release of public land, boosting output from HAs and local authorities, and the case for a long term housing strategy covering all tenures.

Those in attendance had an opportunity to set out their ideas and commitments, as well as the actions needed to remove the barriers they were facing in building new homes. …
