Prime Chelsea site up for sale

The government is expected to announce that it will put Chelsea Barracks up for sale today. The site is likely to fetch up to £250 million for development into around 1,000 apartments. The site is in a prime location between Sloane Square and the Thames and is expected to attract plenty of buyer interest. A source involved in the negotiations with the MoD said: “It is a nice, flat 13-acre development site with buildings of little or no merit to them. They are basically dilapidated 1960s barrack blocks which can be demolished without fuss. It is crying out for something to be done and the development market has been waiting to do it for quite some time. A typical two bedroom apartment would go for £400,000 to £500,000”. (The Times)
