Shelter survey rebuffed

Shelter has concluded that the nation’s home ownership "obsessions" are "a myth." The charity based the claim on the results of a YouGov survey it commissioned, asking low-income earners to cite the three most important aspects of their home. Feeling safe was ranked top by 72% of respondents followed by affordability (40%) and ownership (39%). But 59% of those renting in the social sector said they would like to own their own home as did 63% of those who rented privately. Homes for Scotland executive director Bruce Black said: "There is nothing in the survey that does not show that the majority of people want to own their own home. To suggest otherwise is spin."
