Robin Smith is a highly accomplished construction and development executive with more than 35 years of experience spanning quantity surveying, commercial leadership, technical management, land acquisition, strategic planning, and operational delivery across the UK housing and regeneration sectors. Throughout his career, he has held senior board-level positions with leading PLC housebuilders, property companies, and registered housing providers, establishing a reputation for driving growth, delivering large-scale residential developments, and creating high-performing teams.
Beginning his career in quantity surveying, Robin developed a strong commercial foundation through a series of progressively senior roles with contractors including Wards Construction, Bernard Sunley, R. Mansell (City), Henry Boot, and Bisley Construction. During this period, he gained extensive experience managing complex construction projects and controlling costs, which laid the groundwork for his transition into strategic leadership.
In 1999, Robin joined Persimmon and quickly became involved in delivering major residential developments in London, including high-rise and mixed-use schemes with multi-million-pound construction values. His success led to appointment as Chief Surveyor, overseeing surveying functions across the region's portfolio of complex urban developments.
Robin subsequently moved into senior commercial leadership roles with Redrow Homes, Westbury Homes, and Persimmon Homes, where he became a member of regional boards and assumed responsibility for commercial strategy, budgeting, procurement, risk management, and team development. These roles broadened his expertise beyond cost management and positioned him as a key contributor to business growth and operational performance.
A defining chapter of Robin's career came during his tenure with St. Modwen Homes, where he served as Technical Director and helped transform the business from a start-up operation into a nationally recognised housebuilder. Over an eight-year period, he led technical, planning, and land acquisition strategies across England and Wales, delivering planning consent for more than 8,400 homes and submitting applications for a further 1,500. Under his leadership, the business achieved industry-leading health and safety performance, high customer satisfaction scores, and significant annual delivery growth.
Following a brief period as Commercial Director at Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, Robin joined Bromford Flagship LiveWest in 2021 as Operations Director. In this role, he has been instrumental in developing and scaling the organisation's in-house development business from a small infill-site operation into a major regional delivery platform capable of safely and profitably completing more than 900 homes annually across a range of tenures. He has played a central role in shaping growth strategies, increasing delivery capacity, guiding land acquisition activities, and contributing to the wider investment programme responsible for thousands of new homes each year.
