Assembly publishes planning paper for Wales

<b></b>Delivering for Wales has been published by the Welsh Assembly, mirroring the Green Paper on planning reform in England. <br> Launching the consultation, environment minister Sue Essex said:<p></p><p> &amp;“Planning is a key component in delivering sustainable development and economic regeneration in Wales, and the new system needs to be easier to understand, and able to deliver quicker decisions for people and businesses.&amp;”</p><p> The key differences from the Green Paper in England reflect the different planning framework that operates in Wales. </p><p> There is currently only a single tier of statutory development plans in Wales - UDPs. The Welsh Assembly Government proposes streamlining these and renaming them Local Development Plans (LDPs) and introducing a statutory Wales Spatial Plan. Stricter targets on plan preparation are proposed.</p><p> Responses to the consultation paper are invited to the Welsh Assembly Government by April 29 2002.</p><p> Planning: delivering for Wales is available from Planning 6, Planning Division, National Assembly for Wales, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF1 3NQ, and at www.wales.gov.uk</p><p></p>
