Backhouse announces senior management promotions

Backhouse Housing has made a series of senior management changes as ceo Ian Jones prepares to leave his post at the beginning of next year.

Following the planned departure of Jones, who joined the South West SME in 2020, Michelle Hyde, currently Backhouse’s development director, will become managing director and has been appointed a director of the business.

Hyde will have overall responsibility for delivering Backhouse’s strategic plan and ensuring the highest standards of quality, sustainability and commercial performance, the firm said. She joined in 2022 and has nearly 30 years of residential development experience.

Richard Castle, chief financial officer, will become an executive director of Backhouse while continuing to lead the company’s financial strategy and operations. Castle is a chartered accountant with extensive experience across blue-chip companies and SMEs.

Adam Marks will be promoted from commercial and technical director to operations director. Joining Backhouse two years ago, he has, according to Backhouse, driven significant improvements across technical and commercial functions, strengthening the operational platform of the business.

Marks will now lead on land and planning functions in his expanded role.
