<b>Retirement developer Pegasus has successfully negotiated with local planners and the Baptists Union of Great Britain to unlock the development potential of the site of a derelict church in Yeovil. Housebuilder reports</b><br><b>Yeovil Baptists and the Baptist Union of Great Britain had been trying to resolve the problem of what to do with its redundant church in the town for more than 20 years and, despite many attempts, plans have fallen by the wayside.</b><br><b>But three years ago retirement home developer Pegasus began to take an interest in the scheme. The firm sees itself as something of an innovator when tackling tricky development opportunities, and, sure enough, has managed to launch a scheme which all parties are happy with.</b><br><b>decades of delay</b><br>There had been more than a dozen false starts on the site going back over decades including failed lottery bids and public inquiries. But South Somerset District Council has now granted planning consent for the Baptists to have a new church, built behind the fa&amp;çade of the original building, while Pegasus will build 38 one and two bedroom retirement apartments, together with an owners&amp;’ lounge with library and kitchen area, visitor&amp;’s suite, office for the estate manager, laundry and recharging facilities for …
