Barker-led Housing Commission calls for evidence

Submissions are open for the new Kate Barker-led commission into England’s housing shortage.

The Radix Housing Commission has launched a website, giving those involved in the planning, development and housing sectors the chance to lend their views and inform the Commission’s proposals on the housing crisis.

The Commission, launched in March, aims to publish its recommendations shortly after the general election.

The website - www.shoosmiths.com/Radix-Housing-Commission - is managed by Shoosmiths, the Commission’s partner, and details the Commission’s scope.

Dame Kate Barker, economist and author of the Barker Review of Housing Supply in 2004, is chairing the work which has four themes: how to free up more land for development; the role of specialist housing; approaches to sustainability and retrofit; and ensuring affordability. The site includes discussion papers on these threads.

Barker leads the Radix Housing Commission on behalf of think tank Radix Big Tent. Commission members include developers including Andrew Taylor, Vistry Group’s group planning director, investors, planners, academics and policy experts, alongside representatives of Shoosmiths and Radix.
