Steve Menary looks at plans for The Pavilions</b></b><br><b>For Bryant&’s opening delivery in Southampton, redeveloping Hampshire County Cricket Club&’s centuries old stadium into housing had to be an impressive debut.</b><br><b>&“We&’re only based in Chandlers Ford and have worked in the Southampton area but we&’d never done anything in the urban centre,&” explains Mark Hewett, regional land director at Bryant&’s Wessex region. &“This was our first development there and we really wanted to make a good job of it.&”</b><br><b><b>opening with berkeley</b></b><br> The County Ground at Northlands Road had been the home to Hampshire CCC for more than a century but also has some recent history. The cricket club agreed a deal with Berkeley to sell the site for more than &£5 million in the mid 90s as part of plans to relocate to a new stadium on the outskirts of the city.<p></p><p>The club thrashed out a planning brief with Southampton City Council for the site to be developed for housing and Berkeley had secured planning permission in the early part of 1999.</p><p>But with Northlands Road still being used …
