Budget boost for building funds

An extra £420 million is being ploughed into the Get Britain Building Fund and the Growing Places Fund "to ensure that there are new homes to buy", chancellor George Osborne announced in his Budget.<br> <br> An additional £150 million will go to the GBBF – taking it up to £570 million – to unlock "shovel ready" sites with planning permission, creating up to 16,000 new homes and more than 30,000 new jobs. An extra £270 million will go to the GPF to deliver infrastructure to promote economic growth and build new houses.<br> <br> The announcement came just days after the Homes and Communities Agency revealed the shortlisted schemes for the GBBF – 224 schemes have entered a due diligence process before contracts are signed. HCA received 170 expressions of interest, containing bids for 392 schemes.
