Cala has decreased its scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by almost 39% and committed itself to science-based targets to further reduce its environmental impact.
The housebuilder said today (July 28) that during the year ending December 31 2024, its absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions had reduced to close to 40% since 2021.
As an intensity metric, scope 1 and 2 emissions per 100m² developed floor area fell by more than 46% over the same period. Scope 1 carbon emissions are direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from sources a company owns or controls. Scope 2 covers indirect GHG emissions generated from energy consumption.
More than 12% of the homes Cala delivered in 2024 and all schemes passing through planning from January 1 2024 were fossil-free. Almost 34% of homes were built using timber frame - Cala is aiming for 100% timber frame as standard.
Cala also said it had achieved “significant progress” in other areas of sustainability, including installing around 5,000 “nature-supporting” features in and around new homes during the year. It has diverted 99.9% of construction waste from landfill, with waste intensity dropping 18.8% since 2021.
