Egan to advise government on Thames Gateway

CBI president Sir John Egan is government’s new special advisor on the Thames Gateway, following his acceptance of an invitation from the prime minister and John Prescott. Tony Blair announced the appointment, describing Egan’s new role as forming a link to employers and developers, advising on government delivery and being “a driving force behind the prosperity of the region.” “I am very enthusiastic about my new advisory role,” said Egan. “I am already chairing a Task Group advising John Prescott about the way in which we can improve the skills needed to deliver sustainable communities. My new role in the Thames Gateway is a progression from that and I shall want to try out some of our ideas on the ground.” John Prescott added: “He will champion the private sector interest and the need to create the right climate for private investment. He brings to this role a very distinctive combination of extensive experience of property and business, and a strong conviction about the need for high quality, sustainable property.”
