Experts to kickstart schemes

The government has introduced intermediaries to help kickstart stalled housing schemes. They will offer free advice and support to councils and developers in order to help revise section 106 agreements which are no longer economically viable in the difficult economic climate and are stalling development. <br> <br> The initiative is being trialled with a select number of councils who will identify key sites.<br> <br> The government has also launched a consultation which would allow developers to ask councils to renegotiate s106 agreements if they were agreed before April 2010. Currently this can only occur after five years once a council refuses a developer's request for voluntary renegotiation.
