The Future Homes Hub has launched the New Homes Environmental Metrics, what it calls a “major milestone” towards a more consistent approach to environmental reporting across the new homes sector.
With the Metrics, the Hub said it had produced a common set of methodologies in a change to what was often a fragmented approach, with developers facing a “flood” of disjointed data requests, “overlapping reporting demands and confusing methodologies”.
Now, the New Homes Environmental Metrics mark “a significant step forward towards the standardisation of green accounting methods” for the housebuilding industry, covering themes including energy, carbon, climate, water, waste, sustainable procurement, placemaking and connectivity.
The Hub said the Metrics would enable targeted progress across key sustainability topics “and set a shared standard for progress on environmental data quality”.
Supported by Homes England and key financial institutions, the Metrics will be developed in alignment with existing standards including NextGeneration, the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing and B4NZ Sustainability Data Taskforce.
The Hub said that although the Metrics were not a mandatory tool, the more developers that adopted the framework, “the more powerful and useful it becomes”, with organisations of all sizes being invited to participate in …
