Gateway hunger for CSR spend commitment

<p>Fears are mounting that chancellor Gordon Brown will not meet funding expectations for the Thames Gateway in his 2007 comprehensive spending review (CSR), slowing the delivery of low carbon homes and infrastructure in the area. Speaking to Housebuilder, Thames Gateway chief executive Judith Armitt said: “After the CSR this summer we will know what we can fund and it will mean that we will have to establish some priorities.” Armitt warned that low carbon housing plans could suffer if funding is slashed. “It won’t move down the priority list, but how fast the initiative moves will depend on the CSR.”</p> <p>She said that key infrastructure such as Crossrail, a proposed rail line from west London to Essex and Kent, was also under threat. “Crossrail will require a substantial assembly of funding and is dependent on the spending review. I don’t think everything in the Gateway is dependent on it but it would make a very big difference to the area and would certainly make delivery [of housing] faster.” She added: “There is a great deal to deliver.
