<b><b>Boxing clever</b></b><br> As the dust settles on the dramatic last-minute rescue of Banner Homes by the Prowting family, one questions remains which is worthy of an Agatha Christie whodunnit: was the fascinating tale of The Box of Documents fact or fantasy?<p></p><p> According to the version which swept the industry, The Box was seen waiting patiently in reception at Banner HQ, bearing an address label which read &“Wimpey&”. Without further ado, a rival industry journal speculated that Wimpey chief executive Peter Johnson was set to swoop for Banner.</p><p> When the tale was recounted to him, Banner&’s Piers Banfield replied: &“Builders do occasionally talk to each other, and may send each other parcels. This particular package, if it ever existed, did not contain documents of sale.</p><p> &“Wimpey was never a bidder. Wherever the rumour started, there was certainly no truth in it.&”</p><p> What isn&’t denied, however, is the fact that some horny-handed sons of toil among the volume boys were keen to get to grips with Banner which is turning over &£95 million-plus this year on barely 200 sales.
