<b><b>Randall rolls out</b></b><br> The Wimpey takeover of Laing has claimed another high-level victim. But after 16 years of conspicuous success at Laing, Ian Randall is widely expected to set up his own company instead of joining another employer.<p></p><p> Randall confirms that he has been in discussion with venture capitalists before taking off for a career break - most probably in Australia - in the first half of the year. He doesn&amp;’t expect to be &amp;“back in action&amp;” in the industry until June, at the earliest.</p><p> As a man who, through the award-winning Langley Park scheme at Beckenham, knows the top end of the market, Randall warns: &amp;“For the next five years, upmarket detached housing won&amp;’t be the name of the game. I intend to spend a few months looking at the concept of homes with a much higher design input which are still available at affordable prices. That is where success is likely to come in the next few years.&amp;”</p><p> Randall, whose family home is a Potton timber frame design which he built himself, played as a right winger in the Potton village football team in his youth.
