I collected rent from tenants in a green leather bag, drew up lists for furniture auctions and ran off house details on a Roneo</p><p><b><b>First job in the industry?</b></b><br> The launch of estate agent Carson Thomson with my partner Bruce Thomson on an overdraft of &amp;£6,000 in 1974. The bank manager asked to see my Barclaycard and cut it up with a pair of scissors in front of me. It did cut my spending, actually.
