Housing orders down

Private housing orders in the second quarter of 2010 fell 24% on the previous quarter, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). <br> <br> Orders are still up 7% compared to the same period one year ago. Meanwhile, public sector housing orders fell similarly by 23% compared to the previous quarter, but rose 12% compared to the same time period last year. <br> <br> However, the total volume of all new construction orders in the second quarter fell 14% against the first quarter ONS found, and dropped 9% compared to the same period in 2009. <br> <br> The Construction Products Association (CPA) predicted that construction output would decrease throughout the rest of the year and forecast a 0.8% contraction in 2011.<br> <br>
