The final detail of the Future Homes Standard will be published soon, according to Samantha Dixon, MHCLG minister for building safety and net zero.
Speaking at the Future Homes Conference in London yesterday (November 13), Dixon said she acknowledged the industry had a “strong appetite for clarity” on the FHS and that the government would “share more detail soon”. She was unable to confirm when the document would be published.
It is widely anticipated that the FHS will be launched by the end of this year after delays to its publication. Dixon said MHCLG had been taking time to “get the technical detail right and make sure [the industry’s] feedback is properly reflected”.
Dixon also noted that attention would soon need to turn to embodied carbon in new homes.
Earlier this year, MHCLG undertook research to “understand the data currently available on embodied carbon”, Dixon said. She added that with embodied carbon, the government was balancing the need to move at pace with “taking a careful approach. We will assess the evidence and continue to engage with the industry”.
