Industry commits to delight with design

The housebuilding industry has launched a manifesto pledging itself to building high quality schemes that complement and enhance local character. The manifesto is backed by Building for Life, a collaboration between HBF, CABE and the Civic Trust.<p></p><p>Building for Life: a commitment to quality from housebuilders promotes change within the industry that will benefit housebuilders and the public and is designed to help overcome local objection to new homes. It sets out priorities for housebuilders to ensure their procurement processes reflect and adapt to the demands from consumers and government on design. These include:</p><p> appreciating that design is key to ensuring competitive advantagerecognising that developments with uniform house types ignoring local identity will not deliver valueseeking to establish design quality standards before land values are fixed including establishing a development briefworking more closely with key stakeholders.</p><p>Building for Life chairman Wayne Hemingway said of the manifesto: &amp;“This is a milestone for the housing industry and the wider public.
