Kings Cross complex wins RIBA Award

A private home and office complex in London's Kings Cross by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects has won this year's Schucho-sponsored RIBA Sustainability Award. The interlinked buildings in Stock Orchard Street were described by judges as an "urban oasis within one of the most hostile urban environments one could imagine," and were praised for the use of low cost materials, including straw bales and corrugated clear plastic or steel sheeting to "achieve an inspirational sequence of interior spaces" with very low overall carbon emissions. <p></p><p>The Peabody Trust won the RIBA/Arts Council Client of the Year Award for its innovative approach and pioneering work in off-site construction.</p>
