Livingstone launches London plan

<b></b>Mayor Ken Livingstone has issued his London Plan outlining his proposals to handle economic and population growth until 2020.<br> Livingstone wants 23,000 homes to be built in London each year, 11,000 of which are to be affordable. Most boroughs will be required to introduce a 50% affordable housing quota of which 35% should be social housing and 15% for key workers.<p></p><p>&amp;“My plan,&amp;” said Livingstone, &amp;“is to use growth to help solve London&amp;’s problems. This means more intense use of available land, higher densities and re-use of brownfield sites. Economic development has to happen in tandem with infrastructure improvements - especially in transport - that are necessary to support it.&amp;” The plan will go out for consultation with a final version expected next year.</p><p></p>
