Mega expansion plan means doubling capacity

Having purchased UK-based Alpha Timber Frame last year, Century Homes is aggressively expanding into the UK and other overseas markets. Chief executive Gerry McCaughey explains: “We produce over 5,000 units per annum now, and we are doubling the size of the company within five years - by 2006. <br>“We’re spending Euro 2 million on equipment for our Dungarvan plant, which will double capacity by Jan 31 2004; we have purchased four acres by our Longford plant, which will double capacity by the end of the year; we have also just purchased ten acres in Monaghan, and we have planning permission on three acres in Wales. We’re looking at the possibility of opening a technical office in Dublin, alongside our existing London office.<br>“As an outsider, I can say that the English market is where the Irish market was five or six years ago, and it’s a very exciting market because we’ve been through that and we should be able to get turnover up to levels we have in Ireland. I don’t see any serious impediment to that.”
