Mencap throws down Roman gauntlet to housebuilding industry

Top housebuilders are being called upon to don togas and brush up on their Latin to take on a Roman challenge laid down by NHBC and Mencap, the charity for people with a learning disability. <p></p><p> On the weekend of the September 20 2003, troops of five teams from companies in the housebuilding industry will be pitching their wits and brawn against each other at the site of Hadrian&amp;’s Wall in Northumberland.</p><p> As well as a great physical and mental challenge, competitors will also get to experience the spectacular scenery of the Wall, the most famous legacy of the Roman Empire. </p><p> A Roman-themed campsite with a traditional hog-roast will bring the day to a close. </p><p> Andrew Howard, NHBC head of corporate communications said: &amp;“It will be great to see teams from across the housebuilding industry having fun and working hard to raise money for such a good cause. The money we raise will help Mencap to continue its work providing support and housing to more than 3,500 people with a learning disability in the UK helping them to live independently and reach their full potential.&amp;”</p><p> Mencap wants each troop to register by sending a &amp;£50 administration fee per …
