New NHBC guidance to boost quality

NHBC plans to launch new guidance for "modern" construction methods in a bid to improve quality. The Quality Assurance Frameworks (QAF) are designed to help insurers, builders, lenders and others in the sector assess risks and benefits of new systems and processes, and boost co-ordinated thinking. Housing minister Keith Hill has welcomed the plans. "We want to encourage greater take-up of innovative methods, but we understand that this has to be taken forward in ways which give confidence to the consumer and make technical and commercial sense to the industry," he told delegates at NHBC's annual lunch. QAFs will involve housebuilders; certifying and research bodies including BBA and BRE; lenders through the CML; insurers though the ABI; warranty providers, and technical authorities and standard setters such as NHBC.
