New rural affordable housing policy

To tackle the growing affordability crisis in rural areas, Defra and the ODPM have devised a new policy which aims to bring the provision of affordable housing in villages and small towns into mainstream planning, rather than it being tackled on a case by case basis, as it is presently. The policy, which is part of Defra’s five-year strategy, is consistent with new rural housing guidance associated with the recently amended PPG3.
