North West housing moratorium

Five Lancashire planning authorities are set to impose a moratorium on all residential development on both greenfield and brownfield sites. <p></p><p> They say that there are enough permissions still pending to meet their strategic housing requirements. Under the principles of plan, monitor and manage, the authorities argue their monitoring shows that they do not need to allow any more housing and that this is an effective way of managing the situation.</p><p> The House Builders Federation is lobbying against the move arguing that the strategic housing requirements for the region are annual, year on year, requirements rather than a total over ten or 15 years and that a great many of the permissions are not able to be implemented in any case. The Government Office for the North West (GO-NW) is seeking advice from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.</p><p></p>
