Planning drive puts Barratt ahead

<b><b>Barratt dominates the latest Housebuilder survey of regional planning applications with top positions in more than half the tables. Wimpey, on the other hand, has eased off while it settles down following the McAlpine Homes purchase. Steve Menary analyses the results </b></b><br> Barratt continued to boost its land-bank across the UK in the first three months of this year according to the latest quarterly survey of &amp;“who&amp;’s planning to build where&amp;” from Emap Glenigan.<p></p><p>The Newcastle-upon-Tyne-based firm made the top 10 in nine out of the 11 regions in the study and finished top in six areas - the South East, West Midlands, North West, South West, London and Yorkshire.</p><p><b><b>South East</b></b><br> Barratt&amp;’s biggest push for approvals continues to be in the South East, where the firm put in 55 applications to build more than 4,000 homes over the 12 months to March 2002.</p><p>The company&amp;’s next biggest planning drive is in the South West, where Barratt is pushing through 27 submissions for nearly 2,000 units.
