Prowting factor revealed

<b><b>Westbury&amp;’s takeover of Prowting has affected this quarter&amp;’s Housebuilder survey of regional planning applications, while the Americans are coming to Yorkshire and the West Midlands with a surge by Centex</b></b><br> The latest bout of consolidation in the housebuilding industry has boosted Westbury&amp;’s standing in the latest quarterly survey of &amp;“who&amp;’s planning to build where&amp;” from Emap Glenigan.<p></p><p>Westbury&amp;’s &amp;£142 million acquisition of Uxbridge-based rival Prowting has created a housebuilder with around 17,000 plots with planning consent and the deal is expected to yield an extra 20,000 plots &amp;“over time&amp;” for the enlarged group.</p><p>Geoff Maddrell, Westbury chairman, explained: &amp;“This allows us to strengthen our presence in south west and south east England and reinforce our already strong position in the Midlands. </p><p>&amp;“The enlarged group will have an output of approximately 5,000 units per annum and we are confident that the combination will leave Westbury well positioned to deliver future growth.&amp;”</p><p>In Emap Glenigan&amp;’s latest survey covering planning applications made in the 12 months to June 2002, Prowting would have appeared in all three regions listed by Maddrell but now its figures come under Westbury.
