Redrow boss slams planners as he launches new homes range

<p>Redrow chairman Steve Morgan has claimed that Redrow could be building on almost double the amount of sites and employing thousands of extra people if planners would release the land to build on.</p> <p>Launching The New Heritage Collection, the company's new range of homes inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, Morgan called on planners to let housebuilders build family housing - the homes "that people want" - and to speed up the process.</p> <p>He said that since coming back into the industry ten months ago, he had seen Redrow take on 150 people directly and create work for more than 1,000 subcontractors. </p> <p>"Even after creating those 1,150 jobs, we're still only running at about 50% capacity compared to our output three years ago," he said. "If we had the land available to get back to those levels and could get the planning consents we need more quickly for developments featuring our New Heritage Collection product, we could potentially create a further 2,500 jobs using private sector funds."
